About Us

Darul Arqam is located at the corner of Haddon Street and Clarence Road in Derby. This Islamic Institution was set up in May 2005 due to the demand and need for improved educational services in Quran and Hadith studies. Working in connection with other Islamic institutes across the country we have opened this Ahlul-lus-Sunnah Wal Jamaah institute following the Hanafi school of thought. We aim to provide a greater understanding of Islam to people of all sections of the community and provide accessible and adequate education in Islamic studies which otherwise is not available. We also aim to provide an environment in which we can safeguard the Iman of the Muslim youth of today, especially in the modern times we are living in.

Pillars Of Islam

The Islamic Pillars

The Shahadah (Declaration of faith) - Trusting and understanding the words of the Shahadah. "There is no god but Allah. Muhammad (pbuh) is the messenger of Allah." Muslims say this when they are accepting Islam, or in their daily prayers

Salah

Prayer (Salah) - Praying five times a day, kneeling towards Mecca. There are specific ritualistic movements and prayers that are said

Zakat

Charity or alms-giving (Zakat) - Each year a Muslim should give money to charity (Usually 2.5% of their savings). If a person does not have much money, they can do other things instead.

Hajj

A pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) - Muslims should go to Mecca to worship Allah on a pilgrimage. They should do this at least once in their lives. A person does not have to make this pilgrimage if they cannot afford to, or they are physically unable to (Though they can get someone else to go for them)

Fasting

Fasting during the month of Ramadan (Sawm) - Islamic Fasting is not eating or drinking beverages when the sun is out, only when the moon is out.
